Why the cabinet's decision is not acceptable...

Sigh. Are we, the Rakyats been treated as fools again?

We ask for Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to be set up to investigate Beng Hock's death, NOT only on the MACC's interrogation procedures if it violates human rights!

Setting up an inquiry to probe Beng Hock's death headed by a Magistrate IS NOT WHAT the public want.

This cabinet's decision is tantamount to treating the people of Malaysia like an idiot.

Read Gobind's take on why the cabinet's decision nonsensical.
" One thing is certain. A magistrate has wide powers but only in so far as finding the circumstances leading to and the causes of death in that particular case are concerned.

A magistrate may not go the extra distance to inquire into the propriety of the investigative procedures adopted on the deceased, as in the case of Teoh.

A Royal Commission of Inquiry on the other hand may be asked to inquire into both. This means the RCI may look into the circumstances leading to and the causes of death of a person in custody and also the sufficiency or otherwise of measures existing to protect the rights of individuals who are detained for questioning.

What comes across as strange in the decision of the cabinet is the separation of the two. If the cabinet did not feel it fit to set up a RCI, then one would fall back on an inquest. But where the cabinet decides to set up a RCI, then what is the logic behind separating the two?

Not only would there be two separate hearings held, which will involve twice the time and cost, there could be a serious problem if the findings of both were different. That would result in an absurd and highly embarrassing position for the government. "

Azmi Sharom in his Aide’s death a tragedy for the entire nation's article in The Star mentioned that

"But the death of Teoh Beng Hock is more than just about the death of one man. It is about the future of democracy in this nation.

At a time when young men and women feel the change in the air, when they feel a difference can finally come and they seek to do nothing more than serve the public in thankless tasks, they see that this desire to do good can be rewarded with death. What does this bode for the future?

Teoh’s story is a tragedy for those who loved him and those who knew him.

It is also, sadly, a tragedy for the entire nation; a tragedy made all the worse if we do not go on striving for the values and ideals that this young man obviously believed in.

The creation of an independent investigative body is necessary."

Indeed, this is a tragedy for the entire nation.

Now, is the time for us, Malaysians to stand united, to demand for our right to know how a young man who had so willingly lived his life to fight for a better Malaysia, died performing his duty in the MACC headquarter!

Let's all march into the
KL-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall
at 7.30 tonight
for Teoh Beng Hock's memorial

as a show of solidarity with his family as well as our disgust towards the Cabinet's decision for trying to fool us, yet again!!!
